of course, as students, memorization was like the BACKBONE of studying. here are some quick cool tips to memorize quickly.
Memorization techniques fall into two types. Long term memory and short term memory. Each has it own different techniques. In this article, I’ll talk about memorization techniques which are effective for both short term memory and long term memory since both are essential in our every day lives.
1. Memorization By Mnuemonics
This memorization technique is the most popular technique discussed but many people don’t use it. Using it is simple. You make up a phrase which will represent a certain list, in order.
The most popular example is the colors of the rainbow. The phrase “Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain”. The first letter of each word represents the colors of the rainbow in order.
You can make up phrases by yourself for all kinds of lists.
2. Memorization By Picturing
When you’re introduced to a person, you can remember their names and faces by picturing them in a funny manner.
If someone is called Eli McDonald, you look at them in the face when you first see them and picture their faces according to their names. In this example, we can look at their faces and imagine them wearing a McDonald’s uniform, but eating a Deli France sandwich.
By picturing people and making it humorous, you can remember their face and name much easier. As long as the picture is funny, the recalling part requires no effort.
3. Memorization By Representing Items With Numbers
You can improve your short term memory by representing items with numbers. Go to a room in your house where the environment doesn’t have much changes. Then give a number to represent each thing you see. For example, the first thing you see is probably carpets or floorboards. Use it to represent number one.
The next thing you see is probably the curtains. Use it to represent the number two and so on. With practice, you can represent a lot of numbers using the things you see in the room.
Now if you have an ordered list or things to do for the day, you can remember in order of the list. If you need to remember to go shopping for batteries, then pick up your mum, then see a friend and then help your sister fix her PC…you can place these situations in the room.
Imagine at the carpet (which is number one), there are batteries everywhere, the curtains (number 2) has your mum’s face smiling at you etc…
This is a very effective memorization technique which can help you remember long lists. Your family and friends will be amazed with you being able to remember all sorts of things without writing them down.
There are many more memorization techniques and for short term memory and for long term memory. It all requires understanding and exercising the brain. You need to read up on these memory improvement techniques to further improve yourself. The 3 memorization techniques discussed are only the beginning.
